For
this task, we had to plan, film and edit a quick-time movie. In the film, we
had to include shots like match on action, eye line match and shot-reverse-shot.
We also had to ensure that we didn't break the 180 degree rule.
The 180
degree rule is a basic guideline regarding the on-screen spatial relationship
between a character and another character within the scene.
A match
on action shot is an editing technique where the shot switches to the other
side of the actor/actress to portray the scene from a different angle.
An eye
line match shot is where the camera is pointed at the character in the scene as
though you are the other character looking right at them.
Finally,
a shot-reverse-shot is a shot where the camera continuously switches back and
forth between the character and the object/s that they are looking at.
We incorporated the shots in our film by angling the camera near the way it should be for each of the shots and captured the footage. For the 180 degree rule, we made sure that we didn't break it by standing in the centre of what was going on in the shot and filming it. For the match on action shot, we edited the different clips we had creating the illusion that we had only filmed those parts. The eye line match was hard to film since the characters were of different heights however, we centred the camera in the middle of the scene and filmed the two characters greeting each other at the beginning of their scene. Finally, for the shot-reverse-shot, we filmed multiple shots of the two characters looking back and forth at each other to create the film.
The film making process didn't go as well as it should have dine because we chose not to take our storyboards with us as we believed that we didn't need them. However, we probably should have took them as we spent a while deciding what shots we were going to do and what part of the film we were going to film next. The storyboard was fully detailed in terms of what we were going to film and where we were filming it, but because we didn't take it with us, we struggled a bit to remember the different angles and shots we were going to include. Filming around the college was something else that we partly struggled with. The week before we had already decided on the main place we were going to film in and had asked permission to use that room. However, we struggled to find places that we mostly people and noise free. In the end, we had to edit the noise out of the background and include music in places to fill the silence in the clips.
When editing, I didn't really do much because we had a few problems with the computer when it was my turn to edit. Although, most of the editing software I have used before so I already knew how to use most of it. I did however learn how to edit the sound in the background and put a voice over over the top of the clip. Everything else, i knew how to do anyway but i still touched up on my editing skills and made sure i knew how to add in transitions, music and the clips we needed. I also learn't how to fully cut the clips in order for the film to run smoothly. Titles were easy to put it the film and adding transitions to these titles was also easy.
Overall, I think that our project was a good idea and it went really well. However, I do believe that we could have made it better and added in more of the shots needed.
